Drayton Park Golf Course

Because of its central location and good transport links via the M6 and M42 motorways, Drayton Park Golf Club is popular with casual visitors and golf societies alike. The tree lined course is an extremely good test of golf, but is easy walking with short green to tee distances. So that 27 or 36 holes in a day is easily achievable without feeling too tired.

At 6473 yards off the white tees the course is enjoyable for golfers of all handicaps, although it is most rewarding for those golfers who can keep their ball on the straight and narrow.

Whilst retaining the character of the original James Braid design the greens were re-laid to USGA standards in 2001/2 Enabling the course and greens to be kept open for longer periods.

The course map

The card represents the course as it is now. Inside the halfway house you can see a view of the course as it was when it first opened. If it is open, make sure that you visit the Wendy House (Halfway House) for a Bacon Butty, a cup of tea or coffee. While there, try and remember to look at the original course design as depicted in a picture hanging on the wall.

You will find changes have occurred over the years, what changes can you see on your way around?

Place your cursor over a hole to see a more detailed description and photographs of the course.

Drayton Park GC has many features of a typical James Braid course:

  • It is not overlong, Drayton Park is 6473 yds
  • It has only 2 par 5's
  • Only 3 par 3's - difficult to hit and always a challenge
  • Narrow tree lined fairways with strategically placed bunkers and well protected greens
  • 7 par 4's are between 400 and 450 yards

No matter where you go, if it is a James Braid course, it will be recognisable from these characteristics.

The golf club is proud that it has undertaken major changes to the structure of the course to keep up with the modern fairway and Green technology. We hope that the clubs policy of continuous improvement maintains the integrity of the course as Braid would have wished it.

We hope you will come along play the course for yourselves, you are not disappointed!
